Douglas J Wyman

January 9, 1928 - February 24, 2023

Douglas James Wyman, 95, died peacefully on February 24, 2023 joining his beloved wife, Barbara, in heaven. They were married for 69 years.

As a Hero of the Hunger Walkthon West CROP Walk, Doug first joined the walk in 2004 at the request of Sylvia and Gy Menninga and served as a crossing guard that first year.

He became involved with the walk over the next 19 years, championing the cause of helping those in need of food, locally and around the world.

In fact, you can hear, in his own voice, how he got started with the CROP Hunger Walk and his progression over the years.

In the ensuing years, he used his skills as a master salesman to raise money and awareness of hunger. The money raised each year increased incrementally, even exponentially.

When speaking and encouraging others to donate, he would say, “Think of a number you can give, then double it. I am going to double my donation, too.”

He inspired others to do their best and give their best effort to make this a better world.

In fact, in 2021, with over 500 walks in the United States, he was #3 in the nation in money raised online for the CROP Walk. His guidance and commitment to the walk continues today as we still feature on our website his 5 steps in raising money.

You can see the video here.

His passion for compassion and leadership in our walk was evident throughout the years and he continues to be a resource for our walk.
