As the CROP Hunger Walk is nearing, we wanted to let you know we’ve been working at this for some time.
CWS: Narirobi Giving Hope Program
Church World Service’s roots are in feeding the hungry. Their reach is global and representing the global outreach at our meeeting was Rev. Lary Jackson. We were given a talk of his recent trip to Africa. I share his Blog about CROP Hunger Walk and his trip to Africa. The Huruma Centre is a branch of the Giving Hope Program located in the Mathare informal settlement of Nairobi, Kenya.
Rev. Jackson also shared a video of his trip to Kenya. Toward the end of the video, three young girls dramatically shared a poem they wrote, narrated and written by: Mary Wamaitha (14 years old), Vanessa Mugasia (13 years old) and Jane Njeri (13 years old). Rev Jackson wrote, in case you don’t read his full Blog: “Mary, Vanessa and Jane are beautiful young women, sharing empowerment through the Giving Hope Program. Life skills, education, micro-credit loans, and peer to peer mentoring help to equip these children (who are often head of households) with some of the tools to make strides toward their dreams. In the midst of tremendous obstacles, their word and witness speak of their determination, dreams and desire to live a hope-filled life.”
You can make a difference, join us on our walk.
